Lost Pets of Omaha Area offers a variety of traps in multiple sizes for loan. These traps are quite costly, as we invest in high-quality, reliable models that surpass those available at local hardware or sporting goods stores. We provide instructions on their use, recommend placement locations, and demonstrate the most effective methods for baiting the traps.

Traps are merely one instrument in a set of tools. Much like a carpenter doesn't rely on a hammer for everything, there are appropriate and inappropriate times to use a trap. If a pet is on the loose or hasn't been spotted for days, setting a trap may be futile. The optimal scenario for employing a trap is when a pet has been consistently sighted in a specific area.

Regular monitoring of traps is crucial, especially in extreme weather conditions, to prevent pets from being exposed to the weather for too long. Our volunteers are not usually available to monitor traps. Pet owners eager to retrieve their lost pets typically have no issue with overseeing the traps themselves.

One reason not to randomly set out a trap is that it’s just as likely to catch a raccoon, opossum, or even a coyote. If the pet you’re trying to catch isn’t in the area, you’ll end up wasting time releasing these animals. Captured wildlife can be very angry and dangerous, so it’s best to leave trapping to an experienced professional or your local humane society.
