Toby the Cat: Reunited After 3 Months

Three months ago, a family lost their gray tabby cat. With no sightings and with the recent severe cold winter, it was easy to fear the worst. But cats are remarkably resourceful, so we always tell people not to give up hope. Recently, a neighbor found a gray tabby at their door. The owner came to see, but the cat looked a bit different and was very thin. Then the owner remembered her cat had a microchip, so she reached out to Lost Pets of Omaha Area. We connected her with one of our volunteer scanners, who went out to check the cat for a chip.

Much to everyone’s amazement, the cat had a chip. Once we checked the information on the chip, it was totally clear that this was indeed Toby! Toby was extremely hungry but is now settling back into a warm home.

This is why we encourage everyone to microchip their pets and maintain a network of nearly 40 volunteers across the area who will come to scan a found pet. It’s also why we remind pet owners to never lose hope, as we often witness these kinds of incredible reunions!
